Surabhi History- Sri Vinayaka Natya Mandali

 

With its history of over 135 years, the theatre took birth in the village “SURABHI” in the Chakraipeta Mandal of the Kaddapah District in the year 1885, so that SRI VINAYAKA NATYA MANDALI (SURABHI) was earlier Kamalananda Natya Mandali. It was established in the year 1985 by Sri R. Koteswar Rao, in the village “UNDI”, West Godavari District. Frist it was founded as “Kamalananda Natya Mandali”, on this banner. “Sondamini” drama written by Pattipati Nagabushan Sharma was exhibited. Paticulary this drama theatre was staged in Andhra and Rayalaseema areas in many timrs. R.Koteshwara Rao was not only actor, but also writerand they were very popular. Whenever they stage these drama and were fully enjoyed and appreciated by the audience.

They used to travel their drama materials through Railways Wagons wherever they go to play their dramas. Koteshwar Rao has two wives .He has seven boysand two girls. After death of Koteswara Rao, the entire responsibilities were on the shoulder of R.Narasimha Rao, son of Koteshwara Rao. In 1970, Mr. R.Narsimha Rao changed the name as “Vinayaka Natya Mandali” from “Kamalananda Natya Mandali”.After the death of R.Narashima Rao, the responsibilities on the shoulder of KALA RANTA and RANGASTHALA KALA DUREENA R.VenuGopal Rao, son of R.Narasimha

Surabhi is famous for its Darama, as it is a teaching institution traditionl values to next generation . There is a great importance of keeping dramas alive. Though there are many drama group, Sri Vinayaka Natya Mandali (Surabhi) as unique.
